Other times it becomes necessary to change an
Improper Fraction
to a Mixed Number.
This is also done in three easy steps.
Step 1:
Divide the
numerator
by the
denominator
to find the
quotient
and the
remainder.

with a remainder of

Step 2:
The whole number
of the quotient, in this case, 1,
becomes the whole number of the
mixed number.
Step 3:
The
remainder
of the quotient, which is
4
in this example, becomes the new
numerator
of the
mixed number. The
denominator
stays the same.

If the
remainder
is
0,
then the answer is a
whole number.
